Support for Self-funded Studios

The Welsh Video Network (WVN) Support Centre is a not-for-profit publicly funded organisation, which provides support for videoconferencing systems and users across the public sector in Wales. The WVN Support Centre is located at Swansea University and the University of Wales, Aberystwyth and has been a centre of expertise for all aspects of videoconferencing since the year 2000. The primary aim of the WVN Support Centre is to provide high quality support to ensure that videoconferencing delivers real benefits to supported organisations.

The WVN Support Centre receives funding from HEFCW (Higher Education Funding Council for Wales) and DELLS (Department for Lifelong Learning and Skills, part of the Welsh Assembly Government). The funding provides WVN support for those videoconferencing facilities that were purchased with and are maintained by these central funding streams. These centrally funded videoconferencing facilities are located within the HE (higher education), FE (further education) and schools sectors across Wales.

In addition to the centrally funded facilities, the WVN Support Centre also offers support for videoconferencing solutions to all public sector organisations in Wales. This enables public sector organisations across Wales to access the extensive expertise provided by the WVN Support Centre and to provide a videoconferencing service to their users that is robust, reliable and adds real value. This support is costed per-studio/desktop and is charged annually. These additional support contracts strengthen the position of the WVN Support Centre and enable a higher quality of service to be provided across the range of WVN customers. The document attached (Adobe Acrobat PDF) describes the portfolio of services available from the WVN Support Centre along with associated costs.

The WVN Support Centre does not provide hardware maintenance for videoconferencing equipment, which should be purchased from a supplier.

Initial enquiries about the purchase of WVN Support for your organisation should be directed to the WVN Helpdesk which can be contacted by email (contracts@wvn.ac.uk) or telephone (01792) 295700.
